Deck Pressure Washing and Restoration Service in Wilmington, NC
This deck pressure washing and restoration project was completed for a homeowner in Wilmington, North Carolina who was convinced their wood deck was beyond saving. Years of sun exposure, moisture, and organic buildup had left the boards grey, dull, and uneven in color.
The homeowner was preparing for the cost of replacement but wanted to see if professional restoration was still an option before tearing everything out.
Why Wood Decks Turn Grey and Lifeless
Wood decks in coastal North Carolina take a beating. UV exposure breaks down the wood fibers, while moisture, pollen, and organic growth settle into the surface. Over time, the natural color fades and the deck develops a weathered grey appearance.
In many cases, the wood itself is still structurally sound. It just needs the right restoration process to remove buildup and revive the surface.
Inspecting the Deck Before Pressure Washing
Before starting, I inspected the deck boards to check for rot, soft spots, and fastener issues. The structure was solid, which meant restoration was a safe and cost effective alternative to replacement.
This inspection helps determine proper pressure levels and ensures the wood is cleaned without damage.
Professional Deck Pressure Washing and Restoration Process
The deck was professionally pressure washed using controlled pressure to remove years of dirt, algae, and greyed wood fibers without gouging the surface. Cleaning solutions were used where needed to break down organic buildup and prepare the wood for restoration.
As the cleaning progressed, the original color and grain of the wood began to come back, revealing a deck that looked dramatically different from when we started.
The Results After Deck Restoration
After restoration, the deck looked clean, vibrant, and refreshed. The grey, weathered appearance was gone, and the natural warmth of the wood was visible again throughout the entire surface.
The homeowner was relieved to see the deck restored instead of replaced, saving a significant amount of money and extending the life of the outdoor space.
How Deck Restoration Saves Money Over Replacement
In many cases, professional deck cleaning and restoration can add years of life to existing wood. Removing buildup and restoring the surface delays the need for costly tear outs and new materials. Routine maintenance also helps prevent future deterioration and keeps outdoor spaces usable and attractive.
